Abel Fusire

Director and Principal Consultant

Hi! I’m an AASW Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Clinician, specialising in supporting adults and children. I am trained to offer Focused Psychological Strategies (FPS) services through the Better Access to Mental Health Care Programme, bringing a significant wealth of knowledge, experience, and training in Mental Health and Rural Generalist Practice.

My experience spans working with diverse populations in remote Australia, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young individuals in out-of-home care, NDIS participants and groups and individuals in mental health inpatient and outpatient settings.

In my career, I have worked as an EAP counselor in private practice, facilitated specialist mental health programmes, and excelled in lifestyle recovery coaching. My clinical approach is supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental, specialising in treating anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, emotional neglect, motivation, self-esteem issues, PTSD, veteran-specific trauma, and personality disorders. I prefer using treatment modalities like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), including both behavioural and cognitive interventions, skills training, psychoeducation, stress management, and motivational interviewing. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of delivering social work lectures to postgraduate students at James Cook University, always aiming to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Highlighting my career, I was honoured to be a keynote speaker at the NQ Branch during the 75th-anniversary celebration of AASW.
